কুমিল্লা চিড়িয়াখানায় বন্দি রাখা মেছো বাঘ খাঁচা থেকে পালিয়েছে। মৃত সিংহের পরিত্যক্ত খাঁচায় মেছো বাঘটিকে বন্দি রাখা হয়েছিলো। নদী পথে একটি বালুবাহী জাহাজে লুকিয়ে সিলেট থেকে কুমিল্লার মেঘনায় আসে পালিয়ে যাওয়া ওই মেছো বাঘটি। এরপর মেঘনা উপজেলার গ্রামবাসী বাঘটিকে আটক করে। স্থানীয় উপজেলা প্রশাসন বাঘটিকে উদ্ধার করে কুমিল্লা জেলা প্রশাসকের কাছে হস্তান্তর করে। কুমিল্লা জেলা প্রশাসক অপরিচ্ছন্ন পরিবেশ, ময়লা ও পচা পানির দূর্গন্ধে রুগ্ন কুমিল্লার চিড়িয়াখানার একটি খাঁচায় কর্তৃপক্ষের মাধ্যমে বন্দি করে।
